Do you think video game prices going up is a bad thing or justified after so many years of $60 games?
Main Post:
Like many of you I've been playing video games most of my life.
The vast majority of which games have been $60. When I was younger I thought this was really expensive however now that I'm revisiting this topic in my mind it doesn't seem all that expensive and hell, it even seems cheap.
I've been thinking about all my other hobbies, things I do for entertainment such as going to the movies. When it comes to how many hours of entertainment you get per dollar video games on average are not expensive at all. Sure there are some other things to consider like amount of content.
If you take two games, one with 40 hours of gameplay and one with hundreds of hours then of course it's harder to justify them being the same price. However let's say around me, going to a movie is roughly $30 on average if you want popcorn, a drink and maybe some candy. That is for 1.5 to 2.5 hours of entertainment. That is 50% of the cost of a game that I would enjoy for dozens of hours if not more.
So when we have a game like Grand Theft Auto or Call of Duty (just as an example I don't play these much myself) where the player bases are massive, a large amount of content at launch, regular content updates etc, $60-70 seems like a steal in my opinion. With all the speculation of the new GTA being $100 I don't see a problem as long as the content is there. I know that's a very unpopular opinion and at the end of the day your own opinion isn't wrong just because I think it's a fair price. Everyone has their own reasons for their opinions and I respect that. Where else can you spend $100 and get hundreds sometimes thousands of hours of entertainment?
The counterpoint that I agree with the most to object to my opinion is that they are pricing themselves out. When you make games more expensive there are going to be people who feel it's not worth due to the new inflated cost or simply can't afford it. This is a very real issue and not one that's fair to the consumer. However people much smarter than me in these companies marketing departments and whichever teams decide prices, have gone through every scenario of possibilities to make sure pricing nets them the revenue they target. Regardless of my own opinion on battle passes, online currency, paid cosmetic items etc, these models simply work as revenue generating. So you have a the people buying the game at $60 but then spending a lot more additional money on top of that through in game shops or stores. It's only logical that they come to the conclusion that "Hey, these people buy the game and then continue to spend dozens if not hundreds of dollars on top of that so income is not an issue."
Any other business model would also make additional things to sell or raise the prices of their products. Video games aren't taboo and the demand will always be there and always be growing.
Now I'm not arguing for "bad" games or games with very little content to be $60 or more. I'm saying for the typical content rich game or game that can be played online for many many hours, $60 is extremely reasonable and in my honest opinion so is $100 for the even more content rich games.
Top Comment: Justified. Production costs are going up. Inflation. Price of everything else in the world is increasing. There is an overall world economic problem where wages aren’t increasing along with inflation, but for the most part that isn’t the problem of game developers and console manufacturers. It’s a government issue.
New Tariffs Could Lead To Fewer Physical Games And Higher Digital Prices
Main Post: New Tariffs Could Lead To Fewer Physical Games And Higher Digital Prices
Top Comment: "Companies will raise digital prices to reach parity on physical prices." This has never made sense to me for as long as digital games have been a thing. I always expected digital prices to be less because they don't have to press a CD, ship loads of games, or occupy store space. Lo and behold, I go to buy a game on my Wii and it costs the same as it does in the store. But of course it's just a profit game at the end of the day. Why pass those savings on when you can keep them?

Top Comment: "Only" 400$ increase compared to 4090 MSRP lmao. NVIDIA just taking a piss and checking where they can draw a line since they don't really care that much about GPU market when AI department is banking them unlimited money.
Game prices?
Main Post:
I woke up today and saw Digimon World digital version was on sale, pushing me to swiftly check it's physical price.
Why is this game so expensive? 60-70 dollars, probably 80 with tax and shipping.
I get its the latest game but Survive released a year before it and is less the half the price. Cyber Sleuth, even older, 10 years in a few months, is about the same price as Survive. Some spots on Amazon even say it's unavailable.
Was this game poorly distributed?
Top Comment: Next 0rder for Switch, American version? It didn't have a retail release, it was pre-order only so prices for the physical are higher due to scarcity.
Netflix will keep raising prices, they want you to downgrade because they make more money off ads.

2025 Ticket Prices and Fees
Main Post:
Just getting a first look at ticket prices and wow...the fees. Is it just me or did fees go through the roof? I’m seeing an average of 30% in fees per ticket. Is this the orioles or live nation?
Top Comment: The fees have always been stupid. The best way to enjoy the O's is to get a 13-game plan or use the ticket window on the day of the game. As long as it's not one of the most popular giveaway nights on a weekend, you can always show up and get a ticket at the window. I had it too good living in the city and biking over. No money for parking, no money for fees.
